🛠️ Setting Up Your Custom OBS Transition
So you’ve downloaded a transition—now what?
To make your transition work seamlessly in OBS, we’ll need to time it just right. Most stinger transitions are only a second or two long, and the scene switch needs to happen exactly when the animation fully covers the screen.
This tutorial will show you exactly how to do it.
✅ Pre-Requisites:
-
OBS Studio (Free to download at obsproject.com)
-
A transition file (like the ones from Pixels Lucky)
Step 1:
Once inside OBS, make sure you have at least two scenes set up that you want to transition between.
Step 2:
In the Scene Transitions box, click the “+” and choose “Stinger.”
Step 3:
Name your transition. For this example, we’re using our Coffee Cup Transition.
Step 4:
Click Browse, then locate and select your transition file.
Step 5:
Here’s where the magic happens.
Click Preview Transition—you’ll see your animation play, and notice when OBS switches from Scene A to Scene B.
Now, we want to time the scene switch so that it happens exactly when the animation covers the entire screen. That’s controlled by the Transition Point.
Step 6:
If you bought your transition from our shop, we include a text file that tells you the exact transition point in milliseconds.
But if not, don’t worry, it’s easy to dial in manually.
Start with a number like 1000ms. If you still see the scene switch before the animation covers the screen, increase it. After a few tries, we found that 1600ms was perfect for our coffee transition.
Step 7:
Click OK to save your settings.
Step 8:
Now when you change scenes, your transition will be perfectly timed and smooth. Congrats! 🎉
🎯 Final Tip:
If you ever need to tweak your transition, just go back to the Scene Transitions box, right-click your stinger, and select Properties to make adjustments.
